SAN DIEGO (Border Report) -- Seven police officers from Ensenada remain in custody, accused of clearing an escape route that allowed murder suspects to get away after they killed a prominent businessman.
State prosecutor Miguel Ángel Gaxiola Rodríguez says the officers conspired to help the suspects flee from the scene after the murder took place on Feb. 8, in the port city about 70 miles south of the border.
Gaxiola Rodríguez says the security cameras captured the officers in police vehicles as they cleared the way for the suspects' white SUV to drive away.
He said the officers were there even though they had not been assigned to the crime scene or the area where the murder took place.
The victim was found dead in another car; he had been shot several times.
"We need to point out these officers are linked to other high-profile cases during the same month of February including crimes against other public servants," said Gaxiola Rodríguez.
He said three other officers linked to the same crimes remain at large, although two of them, through their attorneys, have asked a court to prevent their arrest.
